Since 1995 we have been heavily involved with the protection and
enhancement of the environment that we farm in. Since 1995 we
have planted over 17000m of new hedgerows (17km), fenced off 4.8
hectares of Water Margins, managed 40 hectares of Wetland as
well as 60ha of grazing land to benefit ground nesting birds.
The 1800ha hill is managed to enhance the habitat of Black
Grouse through a programme of Muirburn and sheep grazing
management. No artificial fertilisers have been used for
nearly six years now and all the land is in the final stages of
conversion to Organic status. (SOPA member 1053). We are now in
3 SRDP plans at the moment which will continue the good work we
have done in the previous environmental schemes.
'Both the cattle
and the sheep enterprises are currently in the final year of
conversion to Organic status - in March 2011.
